What is MASA, and why should I join?
Fellow skaters,
As we start a new season of skating, we would like to encourage you to renew your MASA membership.
The regional organizations such as MASA are the under the radar groups that enable many vital speed skating functions. For example, the Metro racing series is a MASA function that allows skaters from the separate clubs in the New York, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania area to compete against one another on a regular basis. MASA also sponsors the New York State championships. Local competitions are an important way for young skaters to build skills and develop confidence before competing at the national level.
MASA is a nonprofit organization consisting of skaters who wish to promote speed skating in the wide New York area. We exist solely on membership fees and contributions, and 100% of the money we collect goes to sponsoring the events mentioned above.
MASA AND USS memberships are required to participate in practices, compete in the Metro series and/or in any US Speed skating event(s). We strongly encourage you to join your local club to support the sport of speed skating in the New York, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania area.
The annual fee for MASA is $15.00 per skater with a $30.00 cap for families. First year skaters are FREE, they must provide a copy of their birth certificate with the membership application. If you are registering as a family, please send a form for each family member, they will each receive their own membership card! Please provide e-mail address so your membership card can be e-mailed to you.
USS membership is also required as it provides insurance coverage for everyone on the ice. Please Click this link to apply. To participate in any on or off ice activities with the club, you must become a “Competing Athlete.” The first year is $30, for a returning competing athlete renewal is $75.]
Note: For insurance reasons, all MASA clubs now require USS membership as part of their club membership. If you are not a member of USS you cannot be allowed on the ice.
